I Need a Break
I do not need a vacation
Not another pretty place to stand in
While my mind still runs marathons
Behind my smile
I do not need a distraction
No weekend getaway dressed up
As rest
No long drive with my thoughts
Still buckled in beside me
I need a break
A real one
A break from reality
From the weight I carry
So naturally
Folks forget it is heavy
I need a moment
Where my chest can unclench
Where my breath can remember itself
Where release does not ask for permission
Before it comes
A moment to breathe
To exhale centuries
To let the world spin
Without me holding it steady
I need a break
To not think
Not fix
Not push through
Just to be
Just to rest
Just to find myself
Under all this surviving
